I used to have a W C a while back and used the forums, and recently a friend has asked if I could have a look at his W as it has suddenly stopped working.

He basically parked up, went into work, came out and it was as if the key had stopped working. He has managed to get it towed to a car park near his house but is getting a bit of earache about it being stranded there.

The AA guy was as good as redundant and apparently the local specialist is as stumped as me. No response at all, no noise, no unlocked steering, wont turn. Alarm goes off but nothing will shut it off Remote locking button doesnt work All fuses seem fine but fuse 7 in the boot listed as 5amp for Anti-Theft blows the fuse relentlessly the fuse issue on the central locking makes me think its a short somewhere.

I can't find any wiring diagrams that show the affected circuit, the link to the russian site with the C diagrams are completely incompatible with the wiring on this car. Any ideas? It has been suggested to him its the EIS but I can't see it being that, this just "happened" and i'd expect the other systems to work regardless.

Hi, Normally if a key fails to turn in the ignition the forum response is to try the spare key if this fails to release the steering lock then the most likely issue is the EIS switch, but as the spare key has,nt been used for so long it is also might be at fault. In the situation you are with the car IMO your only recourse is to get it put on STAR diagnostic, don,t use any other diagnostic software as it is very unlikely to work correctly.

If you have the long key, the coil on the end could be open circuit, but this is only for starting and it has nothing to do with the locking. Does the cat lock with the button on the car. The alarm and the horn are interconnected in some models, if you pulled the fuse from the alarm it might have caused a surge big enough to blow the horns fuse, just replace it. You just have to make sure that the fuse you took from the alarm is back on.

On the W there was a problem with water getting into the connector under the front scuttle trim. Once you find the Alarm Control Unit, Behind dash, drivers side, simply unplug the control unit, at its multi-plugs, and re-connect the vehicles multi-plugs back into the corresponding multi-plug socket, that you un-pluged the "Alarm Control Unit" from, this will all make sense Once you familarised your self with "How" it was installed.
